Oklahoma’s Hidden Waterfall

Natural Falls State Park Oklahoma

Before visiting Oklahoma, the only landscape I could associate with the state was flat fields of crop cared for by the farmers and cowboys from the musical Oklahoma! In all honestly, I considered it a pretty boring place to be, without any surprises. However, one thing travel has taught me, is there’s never a boring place! There’s always a hidden gem you didn’t expect, whether a place or people. In this case, a waterfall!

When creating a route for a road trip around the U.S., I came across this waterfall in Oklahoma. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it was there! I had to see it for myself. And so, I added Natural Falls State Park to my itinerary.

Natural Falls State Park

Natural Falls State Park is the perfect place a for a relaxing day trip! Located on the border of Arkansas and Oklahoma, it was perfect for my road trip itinerary coming from the Ozarks in Arkansas. The park itself is home to a beautiful waterfall you would not expect to find in the plains of Oklahoma – or at least I didn’t! Unfortunately, the only downside is, in order to preserve the waterfall, no swimming is allowed underneath the fall itself (I didn’t know this and was quite disappointed, so fair warning). But if it means preserving nature, I’m all for it and it’s still beautiful to see! There are also other activities in the park such as trails to wander through, there are biking trails and you can even fish here.

It’s also a wonderful place to camp! Although the campground doesn’t offer any extravagant scenery (it’s mostly just under trees in a field), the overall atmosphere is relaxing and the facilities were really nice. Coming from the Ozarks, where our campground shower was broken, my sister and I both took advantage of these bathrooms. Also as exhaustion had set in during our road trip, the serene atmosphere of Natural Falls State Park is exactly what we needed. So if you’re also looking for a tranquil stop, you’ve found it!

Where to Find Natural Falls

As I mentioned, Natural Falls State Park is just across the border of Arkansas, in the northeast corner of Oklahoma.

Entrance Fee

To get into the park, it’s $5 per vehicle. However, since my sister and I were camping, the ranger waived our entrance fee and only charged us for camping, which was $14 a night. Keep in mind this is a State Park and so Annual National Park Passes will not apply here.

Camping

Tent camping is $14 a night. The campsite was first come first serve for tents, but you may need reservations for RV’s. RV campsites were $25 a night and the park also has Yurts available to stay in, which are $100 a night, which would be a unique experience!
